Subarachnoid hemorrhages are primarily caused by the rupture of a blood vessel located within the brain itself or the surrounding tissues, resulting in the release of blood into the subarachnoid space. The most frequent cause of SAH is a ruptured cerebral aneurysm, which is an abnormal bulge or weak spot in a blood vessel that supplies the brain.
